Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of questions on the donation fees we require when adopting pets from our organization.

  • We take many animals in where other rescues and humane societies are not able to due to serious medical and/or behavior issues.  These cases are quite expensive, even with our partnering reduced fees.
  • When an animal arrives on intake, we give them all required vaccinations to ensure they're up to date; we evaluate for possible infestations (fleas, ticks, worms, etc.) and provide appropriate treatment.
  • Yes!  We continue to provide vaccinations for a year after adopting a pet from BHR.
  • We partner with various veterinarian clinics to provide spay/neuter services.  If an adopter is not able to work with one of these partners, we provide a reimbursement credit up to $110 after surgery is confirmed by a veterinarian of their choice.
  • The rescue has several programs to enable hard to place animals into good homes:
    • Zero cost cat/kitten adoptions.
    • Support for Senior to Seniors program (senior dogs for senior people).
    • Program to provide animals that are not adoptable a safe and happy sanctuary to live out their lives.
  • Yes! The fees support the cost of specialized food and supplements needed for the health and welfare of the animals in our care.
  • The fees also support ongoing vet care and vaccinations (de-worming, farrier care, annual physicals, emergency care, hospitalizations, etc.) to provide the best care possible for the animals in our care.
